Betty Ruth Hill

August 11, 1929 — January 8, 2025

Independence, MO

The family of Betty Ruth Hill of Independence, Missouri is saddened to announce her passing on January 8, 2025. She died as she lived: peacefully and surrounded by family at age of 95. She will be remembered as a humble and kind wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother.

Betty Ruth Hill entered the world on August 11, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri during the historical year of the Wall Street Crash, the 1st Academy Awards, invention of the car radio, start of the Great Depression, and the last year of the Roaring Twenties. She was the youngest of four children born to Edna Mae and Willard Harber. Betty grew up in the Independence/Fairmont, Missouri area and attended Northeast High School in Kansas City, Missouri.

She married Robert Hill, Sr. in 1944 and the couple raised four wonderful, magnificent boys in Independence, Missouri. Her greatest joy was being a homemaker and mother to her children and watching them enjoy their sport activities. She also worked in the school cafeteria at North Rock Creek Elementary in the Kansas City, Missouri School district. In her later years she was gifted a beloved companion, her poodle, Abby. Her favorite pastimes were meeting often with a group of friends at a nearby McDonald’s for coffee, doing jigsaw puzzles and word searches, watching soap operas, keeping up with current events, and regular visits from family members.

She will be greatly missed by her family: her sons, Robert (Bob) Hill, Jr. and his wife, Judy (Main) Hill of Blue Springs, MO; James (Mike) Hill and his wife, Mary Ann (Meade) Hill of Lee’s Summit, MO; Jeff Hill, and his wife, Debbie (Armstrong) Hill of Independence, Missouri; nine grandchildren, Denise (Alan) Best, Shane (Michelle) Miller, Courtenay (Brent) Morris, Jason (Charyce) Hill, Ryan (Katie) Hill, Nick Hill, Ty Hill (fiancée, Laura Shive), Jenalee (Evan) Bennett, and Kelly (Gage) Richards; thirteen great grandchildren, Andrea (Austen) Mallott, Jarrod (Danielle) Best, Avery & Ethan Miller, Jake & Kate Morris, Crichton & Addison Hill, Dylan Hill, Brayden & Claudia Hill, and Lane & Zachary Hill; and four great, great grandchildren, Zeke & Breckyn Mallott and Liam & Graham Best.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edna Mae & Willard Harber, husband, Robert Lee Hill, Sr., her eldest son, David Lee Hill and his wife, Clarissa (Chriss) Hill, grandson, David Hill, Jr., her brothers, Willard (Pistol) Harber, Jr., Melvin Harber & Raymond Harber, and her beloved poodle, Abby.

Isaiah 66:13 “As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you."

Proverbs 31:25-27 "Strength and honor are her clothing; she is confident about the future. Her mouth is full of wisdom; kindly teaching is on her tongue. She is vigilant over the activities of her household.”
