Funeral services to celebrate the life of Shirley Joyce Bickel, 92, of Indep., MO will be at 10 am Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018 at St. Marks Catholic Church in Indep., MO. Entombment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, from 5-7pm at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Shirley died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018 at Villages of Jackson Creek where she had resided for the past year. Shirley Joyce Hurst was born June 20, 1926 in Ava, MO daughter of Henry and Parilee (Massey) Hurst. She was united in marriage to Paul C. Bickel in Kansas City, MO on Sept. 8, 1951. They were joined in marriage for 49 years, until his death in Dec. 2000. She worked at Southwestern Bell as an operator/administrative clerk for 25 years and retired in July 1987. Survivors include; daughters Mary Ann McNay (Richard), Karen Maynes (Jim), and Kathryn McGee (Bill); son John Bickel (Terry); grandchildren Michelle Davison, Jennifer Segura, Holly Miller, Christopher McNay, Michael McNay, Heather Helfrich, Sherri McGee, Amy McGee, Michael McGee, Cory Bickel, and Megan Bickel; 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Paul; parents; son Tommy Bickel; and her siblings, Homer Hurst, Ova Hurst, Bernie Hurst, Fay Nichols, Ada Shields, Ernest Hurst, Wanda Haynes and Jean Proffit.
