Billy “Don” Fowler, of Independence, Missouri passed away Monday, July 10, 2023. He was 87 years of age.
Don was born on October 19, 1935, in Myron, Arkansas, the son of Willie Cleve and Tressie A. (Clifft) Fowler. He was born and raised on a cattle, corn, and cotton farm where he learned the value of hard work and appreciating what you have. Don attended and graduated from Violet Hill High School in the class of 1953 and went on to college at the University of Arkansas. Following college Don attended the United States Air Force Aviation Cadets and ATC in San Antonio, Texas.
He married the love of his life Barbara Westmoreland on June 27, 1959. The couple moved to Independence, MO where their two sons, Don and Ron, would be born and raised. Don was proud and committed to his family, always putting them first.
Don made most of his career at Delta Fabricators Inc. as the company’s Vice President and part owner where he worked for thirty years managing welding and machine shop fabrication work.
Following retirement Don got into flying and would earn his private and commercial pilot’s license. Don was a very skilled welder and machinist which lent to his greatest hobby in life rebuilding heavy equipment such as 1950’s era Caterpillar Grader, and Loader. He also enjoyed restoring vehicles, fishing, boating, and spending time with his family and friends.
Don is survived by his children Don (Carrol), and Ron Fowler. His grandchildren Michael (Betsy), Nick, Ryan (Nicole), and Jeff (Nicki) Fowler. His great-grandchildren Lily, Maxine, Beatrix, Noah, Logan, Olivia, and Korben Fowler. His brother Jimmy (Charlotte) Fowler.
He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Fowler, and his parents Willie and Tressie Fowler.
A service will be held on Monday July 17, 2023 at 4:00PM, with visitation to follow from 5:00PM-7:00PM at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, MO.
