Luana Lynn Bingaman (Lu), beloved mother and nana, passed away on October 26, 2021 in her Independence, MO home. Lu was born in February, 1951 in Marshalltown, IA, to Gordon and Ardene McKeag. She married Ron Bingaman in March, 1974, and they raised three children, Lisa Suffridge, Liz Shannon, and Jon Bingaman.
Lu was unfailingly positive and upbeat. Her daughter Lisa was disabled, and Lu faced the challenges of raising a disabled child with determination and a fierce desire that Lisa have the best life possible, despite her disability. Lu retired early to care for her daughter’s failing health, and attended to her until Lisa’s death in 2015.
Lu’s heart was full of love, kindness, and generosity. She would go out of her way to help a stranger, and would never turn away a person in need. She frequently put others needs before her own self-interests, a trait her daughter Liz found both maddening and endearing. Lu enjoyed gardening, decorating, thrift store shopping, and crafting. She was amazingly artistic, able to draw, paint, create 3D art, and clay figurines. Her friends and family all enjoy the products of Lu’s artistic nature.
More than anything though, Lu enjoyed spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren. Lu didn’t mind a living room full of toys, or stepping on Legos, and would gladly get down on the floor to play with her grandkids, even though getting up off the floor could be a bit difficult.
Lu also loved animals. In her heart she was a cat lady, but she also provided a home to a string of Corgis and other dogs. Additionally, she helped where she could with God’s Family Ministries, which also functions as a horse rescue.
Lu’s story would not be complete without mentioning her love of God. She had a deep faith, and was sure that our existence extends beyond what we know now, and that someday she would be reunited with all of her loved ones. Lu attended services at both God’s Family Ministries and Heart of America Ministries, and volunteered time at Heart of America to help with their bible college and food pantry.
She had a kind and caring soul, which she attributed to her faith.
Lu is survived by her husband Ron, her son Jon and his wife Jenni, daughter Liz, her grandson Colin Villanueva and his wife Adrianna, grandson Jack Bingaman, and her great-grandson Elias Villanueva. She is further survived by her mother Ardene, sister Diane Reeves, and brother Bruce McKeag.
A celebration of Lu’s life will be held on Saturday, November 13 from 4-6pm at the American Legion Post #21.16701 E US Hwy 40; Independence, MO 64055.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to God’s Family Ranch, 781 SW State Route 131, Holden MO 64040. Phone 816.732.3971.
