Larry W. Binnicker, 66, of Independence, MO passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013. A visitation will be held from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 25th at Speaks Suburban Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. October 26th at New Walnut Park Community of Christ. A private burial will be held at Mound Grove Cemetery, Independence, MO.
Larry was born April 3, 1947 in St. Joseph, MO to Orville and Velva (Johnson) Binnicker as one of two children. He spent his childhood playing backyard football, and eating icing filled Long-John donuts. He met his wife, Susan (Hodson) at age 15 attending Lake Donovan Church Camp. Together they raised two boys. He attended William Chrisman High School and was starting Quarterback for the school’s football team. Larry enlisted in the Air Force in 1969 during the Vietnam War. During his enlistment he taught race relations classes. After his family’s return to Independence, he worked as the Director of Social Work at Independence Regional Health Center. The last ten years he spent working as the Director of Chaplains at Centerpoint Medical Center, where he ministered to thousands. He also served as lay minister in the Community of Christ Church and pastor of three congregations during his lifetime. Larry’s passion in life was to minister to those suffering and to abolish poverty. He is remembered by his family as loving, giving, humble, and a strong Christian. Larry will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by wife, Susan of the home; son, Paul Binnicker and wife Andrea of Independence, MO; son, Matt Binnicker and wife Krista of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Justin, Emily, Ethan, Hayden, and Jaxson; and nieces, Deborah Caviness and Michelle Edwards. Larry was preceded in death by his sister, Rose Marie Karlstrom. The family encourages contributions to the Larry W.
