Lloyd Lester Bland, age 94, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away Monday, January 17, 2005, at Carmel Hills Living Center in Independence, Missouri. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, January 21, at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Visitation will be held at the Chapel one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Mound Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Sunshine Center School, 607 West Lexington, Independence, Missouri 64050.
Mr. Bland was born March 15, 1910, in Kansas City, Missouri, the eldest son of James Lafayette Bland and Aurora Silvers Bland. During his lifetime, he resided in Dallas, Texas, Kansas City, Independence, and Blue Springs, Missouri. He attended Central High School in Kansas City, and later in life completed three years of college at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He was employed in 1926 with Commerce Bank, which began his life-long career in the accounting profession. He also was an appointee-minister for the RLDS Church, and served many years on the Church�s Standing High Council. He retired as a self-employed CPA and owner of an advertising agency.
He married Dorothy Helen Carmichael in 1933, who preceded him in death in 1985. His two brothers, Erwin Stanley Bland and Hugh Farris Bland, and sister, Goldie May Bland Rose, also preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife of fifteen years, Julia Mae Botts Bland of the home, a daughter Dorothy June Falconer and husband Dennis Dean Falconer, a son David Carmichael Bland and wife Joan Paul Toomey Bland, all of Independence, and a grandson, Dana Joe Falconer, of Fraser, Colorado, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bland was a charter member of the Independence Gem and Mineral Society and the Independence Knife and Fork Club. He also held membership and leadership positions in several organizations, including the Good Government League, Toastmasters Club, American Hospital Accountants Association, Independence Lions Club, Independence and Blue Springs Chambers of Commerce, Native Sons of Greater Kansas City, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He was a member of the RLDS Stone Church and attended Blue Springs Christian Church.
