Laquita Jane Bode of Independence, MO, a woman who truly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, passed away on August 23, 2021. She was 87 years old. Laquita was born on May 1, 1934, in Urich, Missouri, to Glenn and Lavaude Shaw. On May 25, 1955, she married Everett Bode. Laquita took great pride in being a homemaker and knew how to run a tidy home! As a foodie, Laquita was always able to locate the best places to grab a bite to eat, be it a nice restaurant, or a tasty hole in the wall. She was in charge of her family, so whatever Laquita said, went! She loved gardening and cooking, especially around the holidays, and was always a great cook. She enjoyed cheering on the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs, and the Mizzou Tigers, and she will be deeply missed by her family. Laquita is survived by her children, Sandra Bode, Michael Bode, and Stephen (Janelle) Bode; grandchildren, Christina (Jason) Fulks, and Zachary (Kailey) Bode, and great-grandchildren, Sophia and Vivian Fulks. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Everett Hayes Bode; mother, Lavaude Coulter; step-father, Jack Coulter and half-sister, Sandra Sue Coulter.
A graveside service to honor Laquita will be held on Friday, August 27, at 1:30 p.m., at Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence, MO. In Laquita’s memory, the family suggests contributions to be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
