Virtus Bodenstab, 77, 0f Independence, MO passed away June 21, 2016 with his loving family by his side. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Funeral services will be 10 am Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Independence. Burial will take place at 3pm on Wednesday at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Concordia, MO. Virtus was born on November 10, 1938 in Sweet Springs, MO to Arnold and Nora (Bockelman) Bodenstab. He attended St. Paul’s High School were he excelled in basketball, lettering all 4 years. It was while he was in high school that he met the love of his life Darline Johnson at the local restaurant. After high school, Virtus moved to the Kansas City area when he went to work for Hallmark were he remained for the next 42 years. Virtus was very active in the church for over 52 years. He dedicated his life to serving the Lord and his church. He enjoyed spending his time here at home and at the Lake of the Ozarks. The family spent many happy hours on the lake, either boating or fishing. He especially enjoyed teaching his grandchildren to ski. Survivors include; his loving wife of 56 years, Darline Bodenstab; sons Scott Bodenstab (Alease), Todd Bodenstab (Johnna), and Barry Bodenstab; grandchildren, Cameron Bodenstab, Cole Bodenstab, Lindsey Kalbfleish (Matthew), Tyler Bodenstab, great grandson Wyatt Kalbfleish; brothers Orville, James, and Marcus Bodenstab, sisters Ramona Brunkhorst and Phyllis Wilcox, a large extended family and a host of friends. Virtus is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, David Bodenstab. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Messiah Lutheran Church.
