Howard "Leslie" Bone, 81 of Independence, MO passed away peacefully on May 10th at the Kansas City Hospice House.
A visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Friday, May 14th at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th St; Independence. A funeral service will be held at 10am on Saturday, May 15th at First Presbyterian Church of Lee's Summit; 1625 NW O'Brien Rd., Lee's Summit, MO 64081. Interment will follow at Floral Hills East Cemetery in Lee's Summit.
Leslie was preceded in death by his parents Howard & Ruby May Bone, two sisters Sally Whitenton and Dorothy Sims.
He is survived by a wife, Beverly Thomas Bone; two daughters Angela Blomberg Pamela Hayes & husband Phil Hayes. He has siblings Mattie Mills, Martha St. Pierre and a brother Sammie Bone & his wife Jeanette all from the Mayfield area. Five grandchildren, Lindsay Blomberg Daughhetee & husband Ryan Dylan Blomberg, Madelyn Hayes, Samuel Hayes, and Elizabeth Hayes along with one great-grandson, Cole Daughhetee.
He graduated from Lowes High School Lowes, KY in 1958, Bethel College, McKenzie, Tennessee in 1962, Memphis Theological Seminary in Memphis, Tennessee in 1965. He completed a yearlong training in CPE at Research Hospital.
He served a host of Cumberland Presbyterian Churches in Illinois, Tennessee & Missouri. He was the pastor of The Cumberland Church of Independence, MO for 15 years. During this time he became very involved with hospice work. He worked with others to help start the Independence's first hospice program. He worked with Visiting Nurses Hospice Program. Then they merged with Kansas City Hospice. He worked for Kansas City Hospice for 25 years. Then he was diagnosed with The Parkinson's Disease which caused him to retire before he had planned.
He was an avid hunter. He made several hunting trips to Canada, Montana, Colorado, Kansas and various other places. He loved training bird dogs and anything that was involved in the outdoors.
