Bonnie Marie Piper, 72, of Independence, MO passed away peacefully in her home on September 4, 2023. After many years of battling chronic conditions, this was still much unexpected. Bonnie was born in East Aurora, NY on July 19, 1951, to Betty Marie and Arthur Carl Parrish. Bonnie grew up in East Aurora, New York and graduated from East Aurora High School in 1969. She originally attended Mohawk Valley CC then transferred to SUNY Brockport earning a degree in education, and serving as President of Theta Kappa Sorority.
Bonnie married Doug on January 27, 1980; they were married for 43 great years. During that time they had their daughter, Jennifer, who was her world and that later blessed her with their recent life fulfillment, her Grandson, Graysen. Bonnie wore many hats while simultaneously teaching several subjects. She served as Senior Class Sponsor, Athletic Director, Volleyball Coach, MSHSAA Volleyball Official, Curriculum Writer, etc, etc. She spent time at VHHS, Truman HS and East HS, eventually retiring from the Kansas City School District in July 2011.
Bonnie loved spending time working in her yard “pulling weeds and piddling around,” being with her dogs and she never missed The Bachelor or Days of our Lives. Bonnie always wanted to know "what's new?" She started running at an early age as she grew up across from the local park. Back then, prior to Title IX which increased women’s sports participation in schools and colleges, she ran track sponsored by the AAU, Local, Regional, and National Jr. Olympics. Bonnie had walls full of trophies and accolades, her knack for athletics served many students throughout the years via coaching and officiating volleyball.
Bonnie was a wonderful wife, mother, mimi, teacher, mentor and friend. She was the epitome of the word, “BRAVE” in every sense.
Bonnie is survived by her husband, Doug, daughter, Jennifer and grandson, Graysen, along with her extended family and great friends that will miss her so. She is preceded in death by her parents. A visitation/ Celebration of Life will be held in her honor, at Speaks Suburban Chapel on September 18th from 4-7pm. The family will have a time of sharing and celebrating from 6-7pm that evening. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to The American Heart Association or The American Diabetes Association in her memory if you feel led.
