Harriell worked for Western Electric for 25 years and then he transferred to the plant in Phoenix, Arizona, where he worked until he retired on May1, 1991. Then he returned to his home in Independence.
His pastime after retiring was caring for his grandson. They often went to the family farm in Alton and fished in the pond. Harriell liked to read. His favorite topics were history and genealogy. He enjoyed working in his garden growing tomatoes and other vegetables. He did some traveling and liked to look for bargains at Cargo Largo.

Harriell was member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church. In May of 1978, he was ordained as a deacon and he served for several years. Then he joined Harmony Heights Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for several more years as well as Sunday school superintendent and youth teacher. While at both churches he was involved with the church booth at SantaCaliGon.
