DONALD ROLLETT BOOZ
Don Booz, 90, of Grain Valley, MO passed away on Monday, December 12, 2016. The family will greet guests from 2:30 - 4:30pm on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Colonial Hills Community of Christ, 3539 MO-7, Blue Springs, MO, 64014. A celebration of his life will begin at 5pm.
Don was born July 4, 1926 in Nauvoo, Illinois. After graduation in 1944 he joined the US Navy. His duties included playing on the Little Creek Navy baseball team in Virginia Beach, VA; and Green Cove Springs Navy team in Jacksonville, FL. Following his discharge, as a Petty Officer Second Class, he earned his bachelor’s degree at Graceland University and Iowa Wesleyan College. Don’s career included working for Skelly Oil Company in Kansas City and Standard Oil Company in Minnesota where he also played semi-pro baseball for the Mankato Merchants. He returned to his alma mater, Graceland University, where he served on the staff as director of public relations and development and also head coach of the Graceland baseball team. Following completion of his Master’s Degree from Boston University in 1960, Don worked for his church, Community of Christ, as public relations director. He raised funds to build the Temple in Independence, MO. and also for the Restoration Trails Foundation as well as Graceland University. Don has been a life-long member of the Community of Christ where he served as an ordained minister.
Don is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gretchen; son Joe Booz and his wife Sherry; daughter Katie Arnold-Clow and her husband Randy Clow; grandchildren – DJ Booz, Layne Buboltz and husband Austin, Cory Arnold, and Hallee Arnold; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter Kendra Booz, mother Blanche Klingelmueller, and brother Bob Booz.
