Veronica Lynn Bouma, 48, peacefully passed away in her home Thursday, May 18, 2023 after a long battle with cancer. Veronica was born August 26, 1974 in Wray, Colorado to Linda and Gary Gryder. She graduated from Wray High School in 1993 and attended MidAmerica Nazarene College after graduating high school. Veronica married William (Bill) Lockhart June 15, 1996 and welcomed her only daughter Kalysta Lockhart into the world on March 22, 1999 in Wray, Colorado. She then relocated with William and Kalysta to Kansas City, Missouri the following year. After moving to Kansas City she was employed at Family Dollar for two years, until ultimately landing a job at Costco Wholesale in Independence, Missouri where she was employed for 21 years. Veronica and William were divorced in 2005 and she remarried to John Bouma June 30, 2007. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, family, and her cats (Glitter, Gracie, Nugget and Butterscotch), going to the casino and watching her favorite sifi/ghost shows and movies. Anyone who knew her would describe her as the sweetest and most caring person you would ever meet, but she was also very stubborn until the very end. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Paul and Isabelle Gryder, grandparents Dorothy and Leon Riggs, aunt, Julie Riggs, uncle, Allen Kipp, cousin, Eric Kipp, uncle, Bud Mayer, and her cats Gracie, Glitter, Patchis and Sleepy. She is survived by her parents, Linda and Gary Gryder, brother, Jason Gryder, daughter, Kalysta Lockhart, husband, John Bouma, ex-husband William Lockhart, her cats, Nugget and Butterscotch, 3 aunts, 1 uncle, numerous cousins, many friends, and her Costco family. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055 with cremation to follow. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the chapel.
