John Albert Bowers

John A. Bowers, 82, of Independence, MO, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2019. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00pm, Wednesday, September 4th at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. A graveside service with full military honors will take place at 11:00am, Thursday, September 5th at MO State Veteran’s Cemetery in Higginsville, MO.

John was born on July 26, 1937 in Peoria, IL. He went on to serve in the US Army after high school and while stationed in TX, met an airline hostess named Lavonna Guy. They knew they were meant to be together and were married in Kansas City 9 months later. They settled in Houston, TX where John worked for Velsicol Chemical Company and together with Lavonna, raised their two sons. John’s Christian faith was very important to him and served to be his guiding light through his adult life.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Lavonna; his sons, Todd Bowers of Castle Rock, CO and Terry Bowers of Independence, MO; as well as his two grandchildren, Garrett and Caitlin.
