William Bowles

June 17, 1939 — June 12, 2011

William Dale Bowles (W.D., Bill, or Billy) passed away on June 12, 2011, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City. He was born in Stover, Missouri, to Elton Pack Bowles and Dale Caroline Bowles on June 17, 1939.
There are no words that can describe the whole of his interests and talents. He would read everything he could get his hands on and some of his ideas were brilliant, he was a true Renaissance man. He would discuss scientific theories, Biblical truths, and the best lure to use to get the biggest fish. He loved teaching and he took delight in sharing life lessons with his children and grandchildren.
Nearest and dearest to W.D.’s heart was the love of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He knew his greatest role in his life was as father and grandfather, and he taught the children in word and deed. W.D. is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carolyn (Walker) Bowles of Leawood, KS, two daughters, Suzette Caroline Groebner and her husband Markus Groebner of Kansas City, MO, and Cynthia Sue Schmidt and her husband Jon Schmidt of Leawood, KS; one son, William Walker (Bill-i) Bowles and his wife, Deena Bowles of Paola, KS; four grandsons, Isaac, William, Mason and Andrew; two granddaughters, Bailey and Brooke; and one sister, Linda Hargenrader and her husband, Gary Hargenrader of Warrensburg, MO.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his brothers Richard Wayne and John Pack Bowles, and one sister, Carolyn Sue (Bowles) Mathews.

A celebration of life will be held for W.D. at 1:00 pm, Thursday, June 16 at Maywood Baptist Church, 10505 E. Winner Road, Independence, MO 64052; interment at Salem Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 am prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to God’s Mountain Bible Camp, 14771 S.W. Old Highway, Rushville, MO 64484 or Maywood Baptist Church.
