Doris H. Braden, 88, of Independence, MO passed away Sunday, April 27th 2014. A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 29th at Mound Grove Cemetery. Doris was born October 24, 1925 in Buckner, MO to Walter and Maude Mae (Rolan) King as one of five children. She achieved ten years of formal education before stopping school to work and help her mother. She later moved to the city where she married and had her first child. Doris worked as in the kitchen of Newberry’s in Springfield, MO for many years as well as in the kitchen of the Independence Sanitarium. Overall she successfully raised five children on her own. Doris enjoyed her beloved dogs, country western music, shopping, and collecting chicken memorabilia and clocks. She is remembered as friendly, funny, and a devoted mother and grandmother. Doris is loved and will be missed. She is survived by son, Donel Reed of the home; daughter, Linda Lowery and husband Jim of Springfield, MO; son, Bill Henderson and wife Nancy of Pasco, WA; daughter, Vickie Davidson and husband Ken of Stover, MO; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Doris was preceded in death by brothers, Raymond and Rolan King; sisters, Mary Thompson and Jewel Schemeier; husband, James Ernest Braden; and granddaughter, Debbie Strait.
