Linnea Brandt

January 26, 1943 — January 31, 2014

Linnea Ann Brandt, 71, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away, Friday, January 31, 2014. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Speaks Suburban chapel. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 6, at the chapel. The following is written in her own words.
I, Linnea Ann Brandt, was born on a very snowy January 26, 1943 in St. Joseph, MO (making me 71 years young) to Lucile A. Blex Whitington and Leonard Harold Whitington who were wonderfully caring parents. I have one younger brother, Leon Whitington, to whom I’m still very close and I have always valued the friendship of his wife Susan and son Josh. In 1968, I married Jan F. Brandt who has been more than I could have imagined when we said, “For better or for worse”. Then I was blessed with two kids, Tessa Linnea and Jeremy Jan. I’m so grateful to both of them for the love and support over the years and especially now. Luckily they married well and their spouses, Jeff and Holly, are an important part of our family. I’m also grateful for the seven wonderful grandkids I have been blessed with: Jacy, Jaco, and Joah Stampes and Randyn, Tegan, Kennen, and Zavier Brandt. While juggling household chores and the care of two small children, I was able to complete requirements for a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Gerontology. My degree proved valuable in obtaining a Care Home Administrator’s license and I was employed as a Care Home Administrator in various homes in Missouri and Kansas. Professionally, I describe myself as a rusty ol’ LPN. I didn’t work until my kids were school-age and then all of my work has been in various fields of healthcare. My most rewarding position was my last ten years of work with the ALS Association. The Association itself was top notch and my work with the patients was so inspiring. I’m looking forward to seeing many of them again. I’m so, so grateful for the friendship and closeness of my many friends. They’ve lifted me up when I’ve needed it and hopefully I, them. To Cynthia, who went on a year ago, to Mary Ann, Sandi, Wanda, Nancy, Jean, Marybeth, and Sheryl, to name a few, who have meant so much to me. They will tell you that I have trouble knowing when to stop talking, but now I’m getting very tired and it’s time to say goodbye. Hugs and love to all. Take care of each other. Linnea.
The family encourages contributions to the ALS Association; 6950 Squibb Rd. Ste 210, Mission, KS 66202, in her memory. Online condolences may be expressed at www.speakschapel.com (Arrangements: Speaks Suburban Chapel 816-373-3600)
