Sallee S. Brant

December 20, 1930 — June 5, 2005

SaSallee S. Brant, 74, of Independence, MO, passed away, Sunday. June 5, 2005 at Research Medical Center. Cremation is planned with a memorial service 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 9, 2005 at the Woods Chapel United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be in the family cemetery in Bonne Terre, MO. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Presidential Classroom Scholarship Fund in care of the Independence Missouri Board of Education, sponsored by the Pioneer Chapter of the DAR. Sallee was born December 20, 1930 in Kimswick, MO to Ray H. and Mateel (Drake) Settle, Sr. She grew up in Bonne Terre, MO attended public schools there and graduated from Bonne Terre High School in 1948. She attended Christian (Columbia) College and graduated from the University of Missouri at Columbia in 1952 with a Bachelor of Education degree. She taught school in Bonne Terre MO from 1952-53, Lee�s Summit, MO from 1953-55, Clinton, MO from 1955-59 before becoming a dedicated mother in 1959. She rejoined the workforce in 1983 and worked as activities director at John Knox Village from 1983-95 when she retired. She was also a substitute teacher for Independence School District from 1976-79. She was a member of the St. Luke�s United Church of Christ in Independence where she taught Sunday school. She also held memberships in Chi Omega social sorority, the Pioneer Chapter of the D.A.R. in Independence, Campfire Girls and the Cub Scouts, the Mary Paxton Society and the AAUW. She was also Past President of the Luff Elementary PTA. She was married to Henry L. Brant on June 27, 1953; he survives her of the home. Other survivors include; a son, William S. Brant, his wife Tara and their son William H. Brant of Prairie Village, KS; a daughter, Amy B. French, her husband Russell and their daughter, Rachel Anne of Lee�s Summit, MO; a brother, Ray H. Settle, Jr. and his wife Linda of Bonne Terre, MO and a niece and nephew.
