Viola C. "Lala� Brents, 82 of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, April 1, 2006, at Truman Medical Center Lakewood. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 5, 2006 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday at the chapel. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association. "Lala� was born August 18, 1923 in Kansas City, MO to John Joseph and Frances (Rawski) Czopek and has been a lifelong area resident. She had retired as a clerk from K-Mart after receiving her 20-year pin at the age of 80 years old. Prior to that had been a seamstress and had done work, as was part of the WWII effort, of which her husband proudly served in the U.S. Navy. She enjoyed sewing, cake decorating and was an avid fan of the Kansas City Royals. She was known as "Cookie Grandma� to her great grandchildren. She was married to Arthur Brents on May 24, 1939, he passed away in August of 1998. Survivors include; a daughter, Treasa Staley and her husband Rich of Kansas City, MO; 3 sisters, Bernice Phillips of Independence, MO, Virginia Czopek of Florida and Sophie Shelly of Oak Grove, MO; 4 grandchildren, Terry Staley and his wife Beth of Lee�s Summit, David Brents, Darren Brents of Des Plaines, Il and Rick Brents and his wife Laurie of Streamwood, IL and 4 great grandchildren, Joshua Staley, Jessica Staley, Jameson Staley and Kendall Brents. She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Brents in 1999 and a grandson Randy Staley in 2000.
