David Harold Brewer Jr.

January 2, 1941 — May 4, 2022

David Harold Brewer, Jr., of Independence, MO, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. He was 81 years old. David was born on January 2, 1941, in Independence, Missouri, to David H. Brewer, Sr., and Della Brewer (Purtle).

David graduated from William Chrisman High School in the class of 1958, then went on to The Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy, earning a bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering in 1962. On October 5, 1962, David married the love of his life, Lois Kinser in Independence, MO, and to this union three daughters were born: Lavon, Dana, and Linda. David continued his education at the University of Missouri Columbia and earned a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. David retired from Bendix/Allied Signal after 30 years, then did contracting work for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Washington, DC, and the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad in Topeka, KS before finally retiring.

David was a hard worker, highly respected by his peers. He was known to many as a good man with a gentle spirit. While his children were growing, they traveled throughout the United States every summer to see the country and expand their knowledge and education. Colorado Springs, CO was a favorite destination. He was a devout member of the Walnut Park Community of Christ and served in the priesthood for over 60 years.

In David’s early teen years, the family moved to Libby, MT for his dad’s work. Following his dad’s death in 1955, his mom moved David and his sister back to Independence. He was a proud Eagle Scout. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and needlepoint. He built a family home and a Bradley GT II sports car he enjoyed driving around town. David loved playing his baritone in the church orchestra and with friends in a brass quartet. He enjoyed John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies. David was very serious but had a dry sense of humor that would catch you off-guard when you least expected it. He will be missed by many family and friends.

David is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lois Brewer; daughters, Lavon (Dale) Buchan, Dana (Kevin) Clark, and Linda (Rich) Speigle; grandchildren, Tyler Gard (Michael Hutto), Tanner (Anna) Gard; Alissa Clark, Carolyn Clark, Lexi Speigle, Ashley Speigle, and Brandon Speigle; great-grandchild, Elton Gard; and sister, Dolores Lappohn. He was preceded in death by his parents, David Sr. and Della Brewer.
