Walter Michael Brier

June 4, 1953 — September 15, 2020

Walter Michael Brier, 67, a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area, passed away on September 15, 2020.

Walter was born on June 4, 1953 to Richard Delancy Brier, Sr. and Lucy (Duran) (Brier) Ellstrom. He graduated from Park Hill High School in the class of 1971 and joined the United States Army in 1975. After three years of service, he was honorably discharged, earning the rank of Sergeant.

Walter was a self-employed carpenter. He specialized in making art frames and custom-designed furniture. He had a fun-loving, spontaneous spirit, and was always up for a road trip. Although he became more reserved in his later years due to his medical disability, he cherished the memories he made while socializing with friends with a beverage and a round of darts. He was an avid Swap and Shopper and Ebay enthusiast and was planning his annual trip with his wonderful friend Trish prior to his passing. He had a small group of wonderful friends that cared for him and he cared deeply for.

Walter is survived by his mother Lucy Ellstrom; two brothers Richard Brier Jr. (wife Rita) and William Brier Sr. (wife Linda); and nieces and nephews Bill Brier, Jr. (wife Michelle), Cathy Darr, and Matt Brier (wife Heather); and daughter Kristina Sebree McConnell.

He was preceded in death by his father Richard Brier, Sr; step-father Don Ellstrom; and niece Stephanie Brier.

A private memorial gathering will be held at a later date. In his honor, the family suggests contributions be made to Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity.
