John Lee Brightwell, 94, of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, September 09, 2004. Services will be 10 am Monday, September 13th at George C. Carson & Sons Funeral Home; with interment in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 pm at the funeral home. Contributions are suggested to First Baptist Church, 500 W. Truman Rd. Independence, MO, or Crossroads Hospice, 8540 Blue Ridge Blvd. Raytown, MO 64138. John was born June 8, 1910 in Cleburne County, Arkansas. He married Veola (Bea) Davis in 1930. John was a master carpenter and a member of the Carpenters Union Local #1329 for over 60 years, and was one of its longest tenured members. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Independence, and was locally renowned for his tomatoes and roses. Into his 80�s John helped the widows in his neighborhood with odd jobs, mowing chores, and maintained his independence until recently. John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Bea in 2001; his son, Robert Lee Brightwell in 1990. He is survived by his daughter, Iva Jean Conerly and husband Dick of Webster Groves, MO; daughter-in-law, Sharon Brightwell of Independence, MO; grandchildren, Vicki Kay Brightwell, William Edward Conerly and wife Vicki, Mindy Leigh Schumaker, Robert Andrew Conerly and wife Beth, Christopher Brightwell Conerly, Elizabeth Anne Distler, and Darcy Jonna Ericksen and husband Jim; great grandchildren, Jordan, Bethany, and Will Conerly, Sam and Claire Conerly. Ivy, Chris and Dacy Distler, Colin and Corey Schumaker, Brandy Niederschulte, Jesse Ericksen; and many relatives and friends.
