Donald Ray “Don” Brink, a man who was a passionate amateur radio operator, had his final sign out on August 10, 2021. He was 86 years old. Don was born on January 9, 1935 in Wanigan, Missouri, to George and Hattie Brink. He went on to the United States Army, where he proudly served for five years. On March 20, 1983 in Las Vegas, NV, he married Karen Higginbotham. Don was a loving husband, and father who enjoyed drinking beer. He was a car hauler and worked for Jack Cooper Transport for over 27 years. Those who knew him, knew him as a man who worked hard and played harder. For many years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting and he will be dearly missed. Don is survived by his wife, Karen Brink of 38 years; sons, Barry (Diane) Brink, Brad (Paula) Brink and Andrew (Amanda) Brink; grandchildren, Noah Yocum, Christopher (Melinda) Brink, Kristen Brink, Karen (Tory) Bishop, Drew and Xander Brink; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Hattie Brink, and sisters, Beverly Gwin and Phyllis Lake.
A visitation to honor Don will be held Saturday, August 21, from 2-3:00 p.m., with a memorial service to follow, at 3:00 p.m., both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th. St. in Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to be made to Crossroads Hospice.
