She started her own hairdressing business, ran a wallpaper hanging business in the area and did various other jobs. She was a lifelong member of Bethel Baptist Church. Shirley could be found in the kitchen whether at home, at church, or at the yacht club preparing meals for small or large groups. Her interests included not only cooking, but fishing, sewing, quilting, coaching sports for her children, snowmobiling, boating, tole painting, along with traveling across the country and around the world. She was especially fond of spending time and making memories with her grandchildren whenever possible. She loved taking the grandkids to the lake, the farm, or Minnesota for snowmobiling. She will be remembered for her cooking and uncanny ability to catch a fish when no one else could even get a bite. No matter the obstacle or adventure she approached it with resiliency and enthusiasm every time. Her hugs and kisses will be missed by all the people she touched. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of 61 years, J. Frank Brogdon, on January 10, 2017; and one daughter, Donna Bass-Williamson.
