Billy Joe Brooks, 85, passed away on March 4, 2017 in Harlingen, Texas.

A funeral service will be held on Sat. Mar. 11, at 3pm, with visitation from 2-3pm, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence. Burial will follow the service in Floral Hills Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.

Billy was born on Sept. 29, 1931, in Pikesville, KY, to Chester and Trula (Ratliff) Brooks. He joined the U.S. Army at 15 years old and finished high school in the service. After honorable discharge from the Army, he joined the U.S Navy until 1954. Billy was owner/operator of Brooks Litho of Kansas City for many years. He also loved golfing, fishing, and even coached a semi-pro baseball team. He married Judy Carolyn Roofener on Dec. 23, 1977, and they spent many years together enjoying their homes in Independence and Harlingen.

Billy is survived by his wife of 39 years, Judy; children, Sandra Lee Lindstrom, Terri Lynn Arnone, Bobby Ray Brooks, and William Patrick Brooks; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Arbutus “Boots” Mullins and Otto Bert Brooks. He was preceded in death by his son, Wallace Craig Brooks; his parents; and sisters, Beatrice Callas and Rose St. Lawrence.
