Katharine “Kay” Eudelle Lawrence Brower, 98, of Independence, MO, formerly of Pineville, MO, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 12, 2010. Kay is survived by daughter, Lela Rose Ek, of Grain Valley, MO; son, John Arnold Brower II, of Milford, CT; sister, Margaret “Peg” Tani, of Neosho, MO; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren and one on the way. Kay was preceded in death by her husband, John Arnold Brower; sons, Charles “Larry” and David L. Brower; brothers, Webster and A.D. Lawrence; and sister, Jessie Benson. Kay was born on March 2, 1911 in Saxman, KS. She attended Jamesport High School, Missouri Wesleyan College in Cameron, MO and Horner School of Music in Kansas City, MO. She was married to Arnold on December 27, 1931 for 48 years until his death in June 1980. Her lifetime accomplishments include school teacher, long time employee of Montgomery Ward, and member of the Rebekah Lodge. Kay was an accompanist for Central High School music department in Kansas City, and church organist at Wesleyan Methodist in Kansas City, MO, 1st Presbyterian in Independence, MO and United Methodist of Pineville, MO. Kay was loved by all and was very dedicated to GOD, family, and friends. She had a strong passion for music and playing games. We will miss you Granny B! A visitation will be held from 1-2:00 p.m. with a 2:00 p.m. service to follow on Tuesday, February 16, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to United Methodist Church of Pineville, Missouri. Her ashes will be placed to rest beside her husband at Graceland Memorial Cemetery in Cameron, MO.
