Elizabeth Ann Brown (Melton)

January 26, 1933 — September 14, 2021

Elizabeth (Liz) Ann Brown, 88, passed away on September 14, 2021 at the John Knox Village Care Center in Lee’s Summit, MO. Liz was born January 26, 1933 in Mount Moriah, MO and graduated from Bethany High School, Bethany, MO in 1950. She met her husband of 66 years, John Brown, Sr. at her high school volleyball game. They were married August 27, 1950 and settled in Kansas City, MO before moving to Independence, MO in 1959. Liz was a stay at home Mom, active with her two sons as a Cub Scout Den Mother, School room mother and PTA president. When the boys got older she worked as the school secretary at North Rock Creek Elementary School for 21 years. Liz was an active member of Blue Ridge Christian Church for over 50 years as a Sunday School teacher, CWF president and Deacon. After Liz retired she was a volunteer guide at Bingham Waggoner Estate and loved the City of Independence and its rich history. In their retirement, Liz and John wintered in Phoenix AZ for 13 years where they enjoyed the sunshine and spending time with their AZ family. Liz and John moved to John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit MO in 2009 where Liz enjoyed being a Red Hatter, DAR member and the many activities available there. Liz loved being a great-grandma and was known to the family as “Great-grandma Lolly”. She would sit patiently listening as they learned to read, played games, colored, decorated Christmas cookies, had tea parties, performed skits with props, and with her teenage great-granddaughter shared her own “teenage stories” from Bethany High School. When she was tired, she was never too tired.
Liz was preceded in death by her husband John W. Brown, Sr., Mother Doris Brookshire and
Brother Lem Melton. Liz is survived by her sons John Brown, Jr (Janet) and David L. Brown
(Marna), Brother Don Preston (Jeanne), Sister in law Doris Melton, Grandchildren Bill Romines (Amiee), Elizabeth Hunt (Cory), John Brown III, Joshua Brown, Margaret Iddings (Brandon) and 8 Great Grandchildren.
