Janice C. Brown, 63, Independence, MO passed away unexpectedly June 26, 2011. Services will be at 1 pm, Wed., June 29, 2011 at the Buckner United Methodist Church, 109 S. Hudson, Buckner, MO 64016; interment at Buckner Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 – 8:30 pm, Tuesday at the church. The family suggests contributions to the church.
Janice was born May 5, 1948 in Independence, MO. She was active in
4-H and forensics and graduated from Fort Osage High School in 1966. In 1970 she graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. She married Stanton T. Brown II on Aug. 7, 1971. Janice and Stanton had two children: Patrick, born May 19, 1977 and Mary, born Nov. 17, 1983. As she worked toward completing her teaching certificate, she taught Journalism at Blue Springs High School. In 1972, she taught English, Journalism and Creative Writing at Fort Osage High School. Janice served three terms on the Fort Osage School Board from 1985 – 1994. She was a lifelong member of the Bucker United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, traveling, cooking, tending her flower garden. Recently she had taken up crocheting and knitting. She especially loved her children and grandchildren.
Janice was preceded in death by her father, Alva Ralph “Pat” Clark in 1978 and her mother Mary Jean (Lentz) Clark in 1998. She is survived by her husband Stanton T. Brown II; son Patrick Brown and wife Jacqui; daughter Mary Syme and husband John; grandchildren Noah & Eve Brown; sister Diane Naples and husband John.
