Raymond C. Brown

Raymond C. Brown, 82, of Independence, MO passed away on May 19, 2005 at the Rosewood Health Center. A visitation will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. on Monday, May 23, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel with burial at Mound Grove Cemetery. Mr. Brown was born December 26, 1922 in Lamoni, Iowa, to Israel and Minnie Brown. He attended the Lamoni School for a short period of time, and he moved with his family to Independence where he graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1941. He attended Graceland College in 1942 and in the spring of 1943 joined the U.S. Navy. He trained for service as a Naval Medical Corpsman at Perdue University, and after further service at Great Lakes Training he was sent to San Diego, CA. Mr. Brown married Virginia L. Bailey in January of 1945 in San Diego, CA. He then was shipped to Okinawa where he served til in December of the same year. In 1948 he graduated from the Kansas City School of Pharmacy, worked many years at Katz Drug on the square, and he retired from Skagg�s Pharmacy in 1984 as their head Pharmacist. He served as a Priest in the R.L.D.S. Church at South Crysler and later at the South Crysler Restoration Church on Salisbury Road, in Independence. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Linda Rae Baker, on June 5, 2003, leaving her husband, H. Kendal Baker of Independence, MO. His survivors include his wife of 60 years; two daughters, Terry Jo Estle and husband Michael of Independence, and Deborah K. McAtee and husband Christopher of Blue Springs; eight grandchildren, Eric Baker and wife Kristi of Lee�s Summit, Ryan Baker, and Corey Baker and wife Jodi of Independence, Clinton Estle of Winona, MN, Sydra Jo Adkison and husband Steve of North Kansas City, Nathan McAtee and wife Melissa, and Jeremy McAtee all from Springfield, and Ginni McAtee Burrus and husband Jason of Blue Springs; six great grandchildren, Emily, Elizabeth and Elijah Baker, Carly and Ally McAtee, and Corbin Burrus.
