Thelma J. Brown, 84, Independence, MO passed away Dec. 3, 2012. Services will be 10 am, Thursday, Dec. 6 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052; interment at Mt. Washington Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Wed. at the chapel.
Thelma was born May 21, 1928 in Sebring, OH. She was a server at the Englewood Café for over forty years and had once served President Truman. She retired in 1981. She was a member of the Norfleet Baptist Church and was active in church work such as Vacation Bible School, helping homeless people and preparing bereavement dinners. She was a huge fan of Loretta Lynn and had met Ms. Lynn a couple of times. Most of all she loved caring for her grandchildren.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband Clayton Brown, son Henry Brown, sister Ruth Giddings and brother George Antonio. She is survived by sons Clayton Brown and wife Pam; George Brown; Allen Brown, all of Independence, MO; sisters Viola Canter and husband Herbert, Jefferson, OH; Katherine Shineman, Independence, MO; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
