William “Bill” Brown, 79, of Independence, MO passed away August 11, 2014. He was born January 2, 1935 in McArthur, OH to Wm. W. Brown and Marcia Leora (Sinnott) Brown. He received his AA from Graceland College, then received his BA at Ohio University, his MA at Ball State University and his MA +30 at the University of Akron. He worked initially as a Junior High School English and Social Studies teacher, then as a Reading Specialist, but spent most of his career as a School Psychologist in Belpre, OH. He was a life-long member of the Community of Christ, and served as an ordained Evangelist since 1982. He attended the Cornerstone Congregation in Independence and volunteered as a chaplain at The Temple. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ralph V. Brown; and sister, Rhea (Brown) Weese. Bill is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jan (Mills) Brown; three daughters, Marci Brown-Turlin and husband Carl, Lesa Bowerman and husband Reggie, and Christi Brown; two grandchildren, Shannon and Sean Bowerman; as well as nieces, nephews and many, many good friends. A visitation will be held from 4-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 17, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, August 18, at the Cornerstone Community of Christ, 1316 S. Osage, Independence, MO 64055. A private graveside service will be held at Lobb Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Bill’s name to Outreach International or Cornerstone Congregation.
