Donald Lee Brummitt, 83 of Independence passed away Tue. Oct 26, 2004 at Research Medical Center. Visitation will be at the George C. Carson & Sons Funeral Home from 10-11:00 am Sat. Oct 30, 2004 with the service being held at 11:00 am. Burial in Crown Hill Cemetery, Excelsior Springs, MO. In Lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the KC Hospice or the Meals on Wheels program. Mr. Brummitt was born Sep 4, 1921 to Glenn and Julia (Wardlaw) Brummitt in Denver CO and has lived in the Independence area most of his life. He had been a Presser for Tower Laundry and Dry Cleaning for 61 years, retiring in 2000. Donald was an avid sports enthusiast and was a deaf All American high school football player in 1937. He loved to build bird houses and lawn furniture. He was a member of the Grace Heartland Community Church, the National Fraternal
Society of the Deaf, with a 34th degree. The Jackson County Chapter of Missouri Association of the Deaf; the Heart of America Association of the Deaf; the Independence Club for the Deaf, The MO-Kan Telecommunications for the Deaf and the Golden Age club for the Deaf. Donald was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ruth E. Brummitt in 2000. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James Lee and Dee Brummitt of Independence; A daughter and son-in-law, Norma Jean and Ronald Karn, of Raytown. Sister, Barbara Cooke of Parkville, MO; Half brother, Reigle Stewart and wife Susan of Scottsdale, AZ and sisters in law, Barbara Miller of Carrollton, TX, and Erma Miller of Ft. Worth, TX; Grandchildren, James Anthony Brummitt and wife, Kristi; Debbie Karn, Robin Kamphefner and husband Marc and Ronnie Karn. Step-grandson, Jimmy Golden and wife Pam. Great grandchildren Sydney, Jared and Ethan Brummitt. Step-greatgrandchildren, Jamie and Jessica Golden and several nieces and nephews.
