Doris Loretta Bryant, 92, Bolivar, Mo formerly of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 10, 2014 at Speaks Suburban Chapel; 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Private burial will be at Mt. Washington Cemetery.
Doris was born December 15, 1921 in near Walnut Grove, MO the daughter of Benjamin and Dora Dean (Akin) Shouse. She lived in Springfield, Mo and was owner of a motel and restaurant before moving to the Independence area in 1953. While in Independence, Doris was employed with the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. for several years. Doris retired from Amoco Oil Company in 1985. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Independence, Mo where she was an elder with the church and a member of the Faithful Followers Sunday School Class and served as class president. She was also a member of the Heart of America Porcelain China painting club and was past president.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph B. Bryant in 1987.
Survivors include her step-daughter, Elizabeth Henderson; three step-grandchildren; sister in law, Carrie Cole; and several nieces and nephews.
