John Preston Buckingham

John Preston Buckingham, a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 24, 2021. He was 72. John was born to Max and Elizabeth Buckingham on January 8, 1949 in Chariton, Iowa.
After graduating from Jones Central High School in North Carolina he worked in special services on the Marine Corp base at Camp Lejeune and then at the recreational center at Camp Knox. As a young man John married the love of his life Wanda Davis and they began a life together. He enjoyed writing poetry and would often write for his bride. John was a hard worker. He spent many years working in Environmental Services in the healthcare industry. When John wasn’t working he could be found spending time with his family. He was extremely involved in his daughter’s activities throughout her life and as the years went by he equally enjoyed sharing the love of sports with his grandson Daniel. John was a big sports fan. He’d eagerly cheer on his favorite Nascar drivers, the North Carolina Tar Heels, Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs. In honor of his great love of the Chiefs his grandson has suggested that everyone wear Chiefs apparel or something red or gold to the visitation. He was a quiet, gentle, friendly soul and was truly one of a kind.
John is survived by his beloved wife Wanda; his daughter, Sonya and her husband Jerry; his grandson, Daniel Preston Lackey; sister, Linda Wiggins; brothers James Buckingham (Robin) and Donald Buckingham (Suzie); numerous nieces and nephews and his furry companion Teddy.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021 from 2-4pm at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. S., Independence, Mo. 64055.

Due to COVID restrictions only 50 people will be allowed in the chapel at one time. Masks must be worn.
