David Buffington

David Ira Buffington, beloved husband and father, passed away May 27, 2016. Visitation will be from 10-11am, with funeral at 11am Thursday June 2, 2016, both at Carson-Speaks, 1501 W. Lexington Avenue, Independence, MO.

David was born on September 24, 1937, to Ira and Mamie (Standley) Buffington. He graduated from Lockwood High School, Lockwood, MO; he went on to attend classes at Longview College. He was a customer at a bank where a young lady named Carla Logan was a teller; his charm and flirtation quickly won her heart over, and they married on May 22, 1980. David was a truck driver for many years, working for IML Freight Company. He retired from Weeks Apartments as a maintenance technician. In retirement, he and Carla spent every moment they could together. They regularly attended services at First Baptist Church of Independence. He especially enjoyed working around the home and yard, and they even took a few road trips around the country. He always said he was the luckiest man alive, and his kind, sweet, and gentle demeanor will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of 36 years, Carla Buffington; children, Cheri (Kevin) Ingram, Brent Buffington, Mary (Matt) Raynor, and Beth Buffington; numerous grandchildren, including Carrie (David) Beyers, Cassie Niemeyer, Savannah Niemeyer, Emery Raynor, Olivia Raynor, Molly Raynor, Jason Ingram, Michael Ingram, Hannah Buffington, Monserrat Buffington, and Raymond Rodgers; siblings, Kathy (Fred) Miller, Paul (Karran) Buffington, Malinda Beck, Jane (Loyal) Steelman, Robert (Linda) Buffington, and Michelle (Mel) Cornshucker; brothers-in-law, Ron Blount and Ron (Barbara) Logan; many nieces and nephews, and two dogs, Norman and Charlie Bill.
David was preceded in death by his son, Brad Buffington; parents, Ira and Mamie Buffington; sister, Myra Blount; and brother-in-law, Clyde “Munroe” Beck.
