William “Bill” Bunge, beloved pastor and community service member, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2022. He was 87 years old. A visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Monday, April 18th with funeral service at 2pm on Tuesday, April 19th, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th St.; Independence, MO 64055. Interment will follow at Lobb Cemetery in Independence. Bill was born on October 22, 1934, in Holt Summit, MO to Clarence and Cora (Otting) Bunge. He graduated from Central Methodist College in Fayette, MO and went on to complete his Master of Divinity from Eden Theological Seminary. In May of 1953, he married his beloved wife, Delores “Dee” Nichols and together, they served many congregations while raising their family. During his ministry, Bill was the minister of Avondale United Methodist Church, Hermann UMC, Rosebud UMC, Hannibal UMC, Christ UMC in Independence and St. Matthews UMC, also in Independence. He also served as District Superintendent of the United Methodist Church for many years. Bill is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Geraldine Sweeten; and his beloved son, Thomas. He leaves behind his wife of nearly 69 years, Dee Bunge; his son, William Bunge, Jr.; and daughter, Melanie (John) Courtney; as well as his grandchildren, Erin Bunge, Dr. Meagan Bunge, Dr. William Bunge, III, T.J. Bunge, Jr., and Zachary Bunge. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association.
