Vernie C. Burgess

Vernie C. Burgess, 77 of Independence, MO passed away Fri. Sep 17, 2004 at his home. Services will be 2:00 pm Tue. Sep 21, 2004 at the George C. Carson & Sons Funeral Home, with visitation from 1 pm until service time. Burial in Mount Washington Forever Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the Northland Hospice or to Cancer Action. Mr. Burgess was born on Apr. 4, 1927 to Vernie and Ida Burgess in Granite City, IL and had lived in this area since 1946. He was president of Frederick Manufacturing Company for 27 years, retiring in 1989. He was a Navy veteran of WWII. Vernie was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge #39. The American Legion Post 340, the 40 and 8 club and was Past Commander of VFW Post 3976. He had been active with Scouting and had served as Assistant Scout Master of Troop 282. He loved to Hunt, Fish and Travel and was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Burgess is survived by his wife of almost 53 years, Lillian Burgess of Independence. Two sons, Rick Burgess and wife Dee of Port Aransas, TX and Larry Burgess and wife, Shelia of Red Oak, TX. A daughter, Linda Shinabargar and husband Mike of Independence, MO. Five grandchildren, two step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren.
