Marilyn A. Burkett, 87, Independence, MO, died November 11, 2022, at Silverado in Lee’s Summit, MO.
Marilyn was born September 17, 1935, in Grand Pass, MO. She was a graduate of Warrensburg High School and Graceland College of Nursing. She was a Registered Nurse for the Jackson County Health Department for 37 years. She was so giving and loved helping others.
Marilyn and her late husband Don were avid sports fans and season ticket holders for both the Chiefs and Royals for many years, never missing a game. After retiring in 2000, she enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Scotland, Mexico and England and spending quality time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marilyn was an active member at Trinity Presbyterian Church for many years. She devoted countless hours to various church committees and loved volunteering at their funnel cake booth at the SantaCaliGon Festival which raised funds for the church.
She is survived by one brother Charles (Araly) Simmons, two sisters Nedra Christian and Martha (Ron) Aldridge; three children Rusty (Debbie) Burkett, Nancy Schumaker and Marla Burkett-Ruiz; four grandchildren Stephanie (Brian) Morgan, Chris Burkett, Ariel Ruiz, and Emilio (Sarah) Ruiz; and seven great-grandchildren Dalton, Brayden, Madison, James, Silas, Emilio and Oliver.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 17th, 6-8 pm, at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO. Graveside service will be held Friday, November 18th at 11 am, at Mt. Washington Cemetery, 614 S. Brookside Ave., Independence, MO (use Truman Road entrance).
Marilyn was an avid animal lover. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Animals Best Friends, P.O. Box 493, Independence, MO 64051, or Traditions Health Hospice, 220 NW RD Mize Rd., Suite 101, Blue Springs, MO 64014, who provided comfort and excellent care of Marilyn during her last year of life.
