Harold William Burkhardt, 87 of Independence, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Rosewood Health & Rehab Center at the Groves in Independence, MO. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Mound Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends from noon until service time Saturday at the chapel. Harold was born November 4, 1925 in Los Angeles, CA to Louis and Elizabeth Burkhardt. He moved to Independence in 1942 where he has been a resident since. He was drafted into the US Army while attending William Chrisman High School and proudly served during WWII. He worked for Southwestern Bell for over 38 years until he retired in 1988. He was a member of the Independence 2nd Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He is survived by; a brother, David L. Burkhardt and wife Ida Mae of Independence, MO; a sister, Marilyn Brown of Kansas City, MO; 9 nieces and nephews, Forrest Brown, Jr., Cheryl Garrett, Kenneth Burkhardt, Kimberly Hendrix (caregiver), Gregory Burkhardt, Jeri Brown, David Wayne Burkhardt, Brian Brown and Ted Brown; 23 great nieces and nephews and 20 great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by; a sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and William Reynolds and a brother-in-law, Forrest D.
