Shirley Dean Burks (Routh)

Shirley Dean Burks of Lees Summit MO. passed away Sat. May 27, 2023. Family will receive guests from 2-3pm on June 7th at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Memorial service will begin at 3pm.

Shirley was born on March 13, 1938 in Plato, Mo. to Homer Routh and Zilpha (Stockton) Routh, and has lived for the past 16 years at Wilshire Hills Apartments in Lees Summit, Mo. where she has developed many friendships. Shirley worked at several positions, all in service to others.

She has been preceded in death by husband, James Burks, her parents and 10 siblings.
She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Craig and Iva Shepherd, Harrisonville, Mo. and David and Therese Shepherd, Independence, Mo. as well as grandchildren, Bayli Shepherd Lees Summit, Mo., Collin Shepherd, Lees Summit, Mo. and Sean and Amber Rinehart, Independence, Mo.

More than anything, Shirley loved her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, road trips, country music, family gatherings that were accented by the sound of bluegrass instruments and vocals, visiting with friends and
simply being outside enjoying the warmth of the sun.
