Edwin L. Burns, 57, of Buckner, MO passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at his residence. Cremation is planned with a brief memorial service to be held at 2:00 p.m., followed by visitation until 4pm Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Speaks Buckner Chapel 300 Adams St., Buckner, MO 64016. Donations may be made in his name to KU Cancer Center 2650 Shawnee Mission Pkwy, Westwood, KS 66205. Edwin was born August 31, 1961 in East Liverpool, OH. He grew up in Ohio and had moved to Independence in the early 1980’s where he worked as a manager for Pinkerton Security for 16 years before becoming a superintendent for the City of Buckner. Prior to that he proudly served in the US Navy for 8 years. He was a beloved husband, father and grandpa who enjoyed outdoors. His passion was fishing. But he also loved hunting, coaching baseball and softball and most of all spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Blue Springs, MO, Buckner Chamber of Commerce, the Mayors Christmas Tree Program and was on the board of the Parks Department. Survivors include; his loving wife, Judy of the home; a daughter, Jessica Lynn Thomas and husband Douglas of Buckner, MO; a son, Chad Edwin Burns of Wellington, MO; 2 brothers, William G. Burns and wife Rita of East Liverpool, OH and Charles A. Burns and wife Diana and of Wellsville, OH; 2 sisters, Sue Ellen Howell-Perry of Phoenix, AZ and Tonya Spikes of Arizona and 5 grandchildren, Kenadi, Chase, Graham, Steven and Katelynn, plus many nieces and nephews.
