WILLIAM “BILL” BURNS
Bill Burns, 74, of Independence, MO, passed away Tuesday, August 13th 2013. A visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 18th at Speaks Suburban Chapel. A funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 19th at the chapel. Burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Independence.
Bill was born August 20th 1938 in Independence, MO to Earl Leon and Helen (Highfill) Burns as one of three children. He graduated from Lee’s Summit High School. For 31 years he worked for ARMCO Steel until retirement in 1997. Bill loved to work with his hands doing woodworking and home remodeling. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son and writing. His family will never forget the years of loving teases and beautiful poetry.
Bill is survived by son, James Earl “Jim” Burns of Bentonville, AR; daughter, Rhonda Evans and husband Mike of Gladstone, MO; daughter, Sherry Stiles and husband Robert of Kansas City, MO; stepdaughter, Tammy Thomas of Independence, MO; sister, Linda Dutzel and husband Fred; eleven grandchildren; one great grandchild; and beloved friend Cheryl Rose. He was met in heaven by his parents, brother, Richard “R.D.” Burns and his puppy, Sugar. The family encourages contributions to American Diabetes in his memory.
