Glenna Sue Burris

February 2, 1954 — January 5, 2023

Glenna Sue Burris, 68, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully on January 5th, 2023, after losing her hard-fought battle with Crohn’s Disease. Her family was by her side.

Glenna was born on February 2nd, 1954, to James and Wanda Skillicorn at St. Lukes Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Glenna married her high school sweetheart, Larry Wayne Burris in 1972. Glenna was a faithful and devoted wife to Larry until his death in 2008.

In life, Glenna went into nursing and worked at the former Independence Regional Health Center and finished her career at North Kansas City Hospital. The same hospital where she had provided care for so many people, was there to care for her during her final days.

Glenna honored her vows and never remarried but found love a second time with Jack Hedrick. After her retirement, Glenna was finally able to do the things she couldn’t do, due to being a hardworking wife and mother. Glenna and Jack enjoyed traveling near and abroad. Glenna enjoyed socializing with friends and making new ones. Glenna was a devoted member of Moose Lodge #2414, where she could be found dominating the arcade bowling league.

As fierce as a lion, but as delicate as a flower, Glenna was a woman who’d never met an enemy and was always there with a servant’s heart. Rest easy momma, your fight is over, but your memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew you.

Glenna was preceded in death by her mother and father, James and Wanda Skillicorn, brother Dennis Skillicorn, husband Larry Burris and sister Linda Daniels. Glenna is survived by her love, Jack Hedrick, sister Vickie Frizzell, brother Charles Skillicorn, her two sons, Matthew and Christopher Burris; daughter in-laws- Amber Burris, Brandy Burris and Stacy Laita, her grandchildren, Alexiss Burris, Jayden Pearl, Carson and Charlie Burris.

A visitation will be held from 1-2pm on Wednesday, January 11th, with a service following at 2p.m., both at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave.; Independence, MO 64052.
