Doris Anne Burrow passed peacefully into eternity on December 20, 2017 at The Groves in Independence with her son and daughter at her side. She was born to Floyd and Mabel Pickett on September 21, 1929 in Milo, MO. After graduating from high school in Nevada, she attended college and got her teaching certificate. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse until meeting and falling in love with Stewart "Cass" Burrow in Osceola, MO. They married at the First Baptist Church in Osceola on July 31, 1954. Cass brought five children to this union. After marrying, they moved to Independence, MO and joined the former Waldo Avenue Baptist Church. They purchased a home in 1961 and Doris lived there until 2013 when she went to live at The Groves due to Alzheimer's. Doris worked at Sears Roebuck, Dun & Bradstreet, and Manley Inc. in accounts payable roles. Doris and Cass had three children, Stephen, Connie, and Jeffrey. They were married for 56 years until Cass passed away in 2010. Doris loved her Lord and Savior and was a prayer warrior. She sent greeting cards and notes to encourage others and celebrate every occasion. She loved traveling with her husband and children during summer vacations. Many times these trips were to visit her only sibling, Charlotte, and her family in Yakima, WA. She also enjoyed cooking, reading, and playing cards with family. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister, her son Jeff, and her stepdaughter and husband Linda and Austin Hensley. She is survived by son Steve, daughter Connie and her husband Steve, stepson Dennis Burrow and wife Jennie, stepdaughter Paula Alwin and husband Larry, stepson Richard Burrow, stepdaughter Liz Byrne and her husband Mike, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Service will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 28, 2017 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends from 9:00 a.m., until service time Thursday at the chapel. The family would like to thank the staff at The Groves and One Community Hospice for their loving care.
