Virginia Lee Burton, 80, Indep, MO, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013 at Carson-Speaks Chapel; 1501W. Lexington Ave; Indep, MO 64052. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with visiting just prior to the service. Burial to follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery.
Virginia was born March 16, 1933 in Green Ridge, MO the daughter of William Henry and Lillie D. (Thomas) Hampton. She worked for Englewood Dental Center for 27 years before retiring in 1997. Virginia was a member of the Waldo Ave. Baptist Church, later the Grace Heartland Community Church where she was active in the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) and the Tea Time Ladies. Virginia was awarded the Lifetime Mothers Award from the church. She was also active in the Independence Neighborhood Counsel #9 and enjoyed visiting church member shut-ins.
She was preceded in death by her husband Hugh Burton in 2009; sisters, Willa Herr, Mildred Land, Dorothy Parker and Audrey King; brother, Thomas Hampton and her parents.
Survivors include her children, Bruce Burton, Thomas Prall (Becky) Deborah Denham, Brenda Marshall (Bill), Brian Burton, Loren Keith Burton (Dawn); grandchildren, Shannon Backhus and Michelle Terryberry who Virginia raised as her own children, plus 12 additional grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and additional nieces, nephews, and family and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child.
