Our beloved Betty Sandra (Cain) Butler, 82, of Kansas City Missouri, passed away on March 5, 2017. She was born March 3, 1935 to Paul E. Cain and Reba (Finn) Cain at a farm four miles from Dixon, Missouri. She married Colonel James L. Butler Jr. on December 23, 1951. In 2016 they reached an incredible milestone and celebrated 65 years of marriage. Betty, James, and their daughters Kathy and Mona had the opportunity to live all over the world including Africa, Europe, and many places within the United States. Life in the Air Force brought the blessings and bounty of friendships which have endured distances and decades. Betty was the true matriarch of her family, deeply cherished her friends and was dedicated to service within her church and community. She was known for her boundless kindness and there are countless relationships and bonds that were kindled by the generosity and warmth of her spirit. Her cooking abilities were widely celebrated, and she was specifically the queen of fried chicken. (That chicken was so good it made it into this obituary). She was an avid historian and genealogist. These passions unearthed countless stories and tales which Betty brought to vivid life with her amazing knack for storytelling. Her encyclopedic memory made her a living history of our family and the curator of deep family bonds, which meant everything to her. There a countless people who will feel profound loss in her absence. She is survived by her husband Col. James L. Butler Jr., daughters Kathy Evans and Mona Wachsler, and granddaughters Aubrey Asbury, Nichole George, Hilary Karki, and Ashley Land, and great grandson Sullivan Karki Asbury. Lastly, her “Poopy Puppy” Leo grieves also with us. A memorial visitation will be held at 10am on March 14th at First Baptist Raytown. A memorial service will follow at 11am at the church. “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices in the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” I Corinthians, Chapter 13:8. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Samaritans Purse in honor of Betty.
