Shirley R. Butler

Shirley R. Butler, 94, Independence, MO, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2003, at the Rosewood Health Center. Services will be 2:00 pm Monday, October 27, at the Carson Funeral Home; burial in Mound Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 pm Sunday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Groves Endowment Fund, 1515 W. White Oak, Independence, MO 64050. Shirley was born March 23, 1909, in Inman NE, to Jay Henry and Lulu Frances Butler. She moved to Independence in 1929. She received her nursing degree and spent her entire career in that field, working for many years as Director of Nursing at the Independence Sanitarium. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her friends. She was a member of the Community of Christ and had been a member of the Stone Church congregation. Shirley is survived by her nieces and nephews, Bruce and Sharon Reed, Independence, Tim Reed, Lampe MO, Jan and Chad Goodin, El Cajon CA, and Jay and Sara Harder, Memphis TN; 5 great-neices and nephews; 1 great-great-niece; and 1 great-great-nephew.
