Rich was born on August 30th, 1952, to Arlene Grace Mease and Harold Weiland Byle in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was a curious child and got into plenty of trouble with his older brother Guy, better known as “Butch"(deceased). He graduated from Raytown South High School in 1970, where he played football, basketball, and baseball. Rich worked his way through college prepping donuts at a local donut shop in the early morning hours before class. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business from Mizzou in 1974.
Rich started his career at Armco Steel, where he was a Forman for the rail crew. Later, he became a supervisor for Kenworth for several years before working in management at Barton Nelson. Rich
participated in many adult co-ed softball leagues, recreational bowling leagues, and spent many years trying to perfect his golf swing. Rich retired in 2014 where he started to rediscover his hobbies. Rich was a life-long Kansas City sports fan (even through all the bad years!) and avid fantasy football player. One of his favorite pass-times was exploring world history. He marveled over Greek mythology and other civilization’s cultures and beliefs. Above all else, Rich loved sharing his passion of coin collecting with everyone in the family!
Rich married Shirley Marie Emmerich on September 1st, 1984. They had three children together, Lindsey in 1987, and twins Luke and Chad a year later. Rich was always considered the “biggest kid” of the bunch and aptly nicknamed the ‘Disneyland Parent” for always saying “yes” and joining in on the fun! Rich and Shirley entered into a timeshare program in the 90’s that they used to take the family on various vacations from Myrtle Beach to Waikiki. Rich and Shirley also helped plan an annual float trip that served as a small reunion of sorts with extended family and friends.
Rich passed away at Lee’s Summit Medical Center on December 21st, 2021. He is survived by his wife, Shirley. His children; Aaron Byle, Andy (Morelia) Byle, Lindsey (Jeff) Beck, Luke Byle, and Chad (Laura) Byle. Rich is also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
We are planning to celebrate Rich’s life as he lived it; with plenty of food, drinks, and friends! His “Celebration of Life” will be held on Saturday, April 2nd, from 5pm-9pm at Disabled American Veterans located at 14605 E US Hwy 40, Kansas City, MO 64136.
