Gene was born in Eagleville, Missouri on February 10, 1926, on a farm owned by his parents Roy and Minnie Cable. Taking advantage of the GI Bill, and knowing the importance of education, Gene attended and graduated from Missouri University in Columbia. It was in Columbia where he started selling cars and met his life-long love, Joanne Gillenwater. Gene and Joanne were married in 1949 and recently celebrated 72 years of love and dedication to each other. Gene's work ethic prevailed throughout his successful career in the automotive business. Settling in Independence in 1956 with the purchase of a Chevrolet dealership, he became involved in many civic and business activities. His leadership and intellectual contributions to local organizations are too many to list but led to respect and admiration from many. His passions in life were family, work, golf and travel. Many friendships were cultivated through golf, many dedicated associates and employees through his work, and much love and admiration from his family. He shared his financial success with many charities in the area which set a wonderful example of caring and sharing to the future generations of his family. Joanne was always by his side as his confidant, advisor and support. His family includes wife, Joanne (Gillenwater) Cable, son Steve Cable (Renee), daughter Cindy Cavanah (Marty), grandchildren Tom Cable, Anne Bencker (Brian), David Cavanah, Katie Stevens (Brad).
