Betty J. Calfas Bollin

August 3, 1924 — February 27, 2020

Betty J. Calfas Bollin, 95 years young, passed away on February 27, 2020, in Lee’s Summit, MO. Per her wishes, a private graveside service will be held in Mount Washington Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Children’s Mercy Hospital.

Betty was born on August 3, 1924, in Independence, MO, the daughter of Elmer Scott and Wilma Williams Scott. She attended William Chrisman High School and married Theodore “Ted” Calfas in May of 1946 – from this union came three children. Betty spent much of her time as a homemaker raising her children, but also worked part-time throughout her life at Sears, Noland Road Mercantile Bank, Wicks & Sticks, and Do-Sal Western Wear. She was also a member of a golf league, a bridge club, the Red Hat Society, PTA, Booster Club, the Cub Scouts as a den mother, and went square dancing every chance she got. With Ted, they took trips to hunt and fish, and vacationed in Acapulco, Hawaii, Jamaica, the Bahamas, and Florida. Ted passed away in 1974, and Betty remarried to Raymond Bollin two years later. They made many happy memories traveling in their RV and square dancing until he passed away in 2002.

Betty adored her grandchildren, and she never missed a chance to cheer them on in their sports events. Family gatherings won’t be the same without Betty’s bright smile, vibrant sense of humor, and her famous delicious pies. Betty always said, “Life is for the living” and greeted each day with joy and happiness.

Betty is survived by two children, Teddy Hawkins and Rusty Calfas (wife Julie); seven grandchildren, Susan Smith, Lori Green, Mark Calfas, Sharon Lockard, Kim Stoecklein, Kyle Calfas, and Anthony Hawkins; 15 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Wilma Jean Peffer and Sandy Mullendore; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Ted Calfas and Ray Bollin; her son, Ronnie Calfas; her parents, Elmer and Wilma Scott; and her siblings, Sparky Scott, Johnny Scott, and Annetta Farmer.
